Balcony Collapse Near University of Cincinnati Sends 10 to Hospital

CINCINNATI — A third-floor balcony near the University of Cincinnati collapsed Friday evening, injuring ten people and sending them to local hospitals, authorities said. One individual is reported to be in critical condition.

Cincinnati Police Department Captain Stephen Bower said during a press briefing that five of those injured sustained serious injuries, while four others suffered minor injuries.

“The building is home to many students. They had a big exam today and were celebrating,” Bower added.

Cincinnati Fire Chief Frank McKinley confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway. Officials have not yet confirmed exactly how many people were on the balcony at the time.

Photos and videos shared online show the balcony collapsed onto the ground, with fire and police personnel actively working at the scene.

Authorities urge residents in the area to stay clear as emergency crews continue to assess the situation.
