Los Angeles: Lionsgate has unveiled the first teaser for Michael, the highly anticipated musical biopic chronicling the life and legacy of pop icon Michael Jackson. The film is now slated to open in theaters and IMAX on April 24, 2026, following multiple delays, including a previously scheduled Fall 2025 release.
The project marks the feature debut of Jaafar Jackson, nephew of the late superstar, who steps into the role his uncle defined for generations. The teaser offers fans an early look at Jaafar recreating some of Michael’s most recognizable choreography—both from electrifying stage performances and iconic music videos—capturing the intensity and precision that defined the King of Pop.
Moviegoers can expect to see the full trailer starting next week, as it will screen ahead of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t nationwide.
According to the producers, Michael explores the artist’s journey beyond the spotlight. The film tracks his rise from the Jackson Five and his early discovery as a musical prodigy, to the ascension of a visionary performer relentlessly driven to become the world’s most influential entertainer. The biopic also promises a look behind the curtain, highlighting pivotal personal chapters and performances that shaped his solo career.
“The tracks are made. The songs are ready,” an audio engineer says in a dramatic voice-over—an apparent reference to the extensive reshoots and 22 days of additional photography completed in June 2025.
The ensemble cast includes Colman Domingo as patriarch Joe Jackson and Nia Long as matriarch Katherine Jackson. The film also stars Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke. Oscar-winning producer Graham King (known for Bohemian Rhapsody) leads production, alongside John Branca and John McClain, with a screenplay penned by acclaimed writer John Logan.
Lionsgate will handle domestic distribution, while Universal Pictures oversees the international launch.
With early buzz building and the legacy of Michael Jackson still captivating millions, Michael is already shaping up to be one of 2026’s most scrutinized—and celebrated—releases.
