Nicholas Pooran played a stunning innings of 137 runs off 55 balls, leading Mumbai Indians to a victory against Seattle Orcas by seven wickets in the opening edition of the Major League Cricket. Mumbai needed 184 runs to win and they achieved it with 24 balls to spare.
During his captivating innings, Pooran hit 13 sixes and 10 fours, concluding as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. He also recorded the season’s fastest half-century in just 16 balls.
Kieron Pollard was leading the full team in his absence, who were struggling. “Today, while talking, we discussed making history. We lost our captain and some players. At the end of the day, I’m proud because everyone contributed,” said Pollard after the victory. “We knew it was a good wicket for batting; we were prepared for this moment a week ago. We had to stay assured and have faith in each other. Today, we crossed the line; we were under pressure at the beginning of the week. ‘You are going to bat like Nikki P’, I told myself and backed my skills.”
