HBO’s hit anthology series The White Lotus is officially moving forward with its fourth season, and creator Mike White has begun assembling a fresh ensemble cast for the next chapter. Alexander Ludwig (Vikings, Earth Abides) and AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs, Super 8) are the first actors confirmed to star in the upcoming season, which will be set in France.
The duo marks the earliest casting announcements for Season 4 of the Emmy Award–winning series. In addition, Deadline has previously reported that Helena Bonham Carter has been in early discussions for a major role, though HBO has not yet confirmed her involvement.
As with previous seasons, plot details and character descriptions are being kept tightly under wraps. HBO has only confirmed that Season 4 will once again follow a new group of wealthy hotel guests and resort employees over the course of a single week at a White Lotus luxury property.
Production is expected to begin in the spring, though the exact filming location within France has yet to be revealed. Past seasons have utilized Four Seasons resorts as stand-ins for the fictional White Lotus hotels. Potential French locations include the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera and Paris’ Hotel George V. HBO, however, does not currently have a confirmed marketing partnership with Four Seasons for the fourth season.
Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, confirmed last month that casting is actively underway for the next installment of the series, which has become one of HBO’s most critically acclaimed franchises.
Created, written, and directed by Mike White, The White Lotus is known for blending dark comedy, social satire, and mystery while spotlighting both established stars and rising talent. Season 3, set in Thailand, featured an ensemble cast that included Walton Goggins, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie Coon, Sam Rockwell, Natasha Rothwell, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Aimee Lou Wood, Sam Nivola, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
The third season earned 23 Emmy nominations, including eight acting nods. Across its three-season run, The White Lotus has received a total of 66 Emmy nominations and won 16 awards.
Season 4 is executive produced by Mike White alongside David Bernad and Mark Kamine.
Ludwig is represented by Untitled Entertainment, Gersh, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. Michalka is represented by United Talent Agency, Amplified, and McKuin, Frankel, Whitehead.
