ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. — Four people were killed and at least 20 others were injured in a mass shooting early Sunday at Willie’s Bar and Grill, authorities confirmed.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said the gunfire erupted around 1 a.m. at the bar located on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, roughly an hour north of Savannah, Georgia.
Deputies arrived to find a large crowd outside the establishment and multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds. Four victims were declared dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld until families are notified.
Investigators say several hundred people were present when the shooting broke out. In the chaos, victims and witnesses fled to nearby homes and businesses to escape the gunfire.
Twenty people were transported to area hospitals, according to the sheriff’s office. Four of them were listed in critical condition.
As of now, no arrests have been made. Authorities said they are questioning a person of interest but have not released further details.
